The body of Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on the evening of Sunday, February 16, from India, where he died while on a tour.

Led by Kiambu County Governor James Nyoro and the family members, the late Omondi’s body was received at JKIA before being taken to Lee Funeral Home.

Security officers at the JKIA had a difficult time to calm down the family members who were overcome by emotions upon seeing the body of the late Kahawa Wendani MCA

When the body arrived at Lee Funeral Home, members of the public were allowed to view it. However, the viewing was temporarily stopped after a drama ensued caused by different groups speculating on Omondi’s cause of death.

Kiambu Governor Dr Nyoro urged the public to avoid speculating on the cause of death, saying the matter will be clarified after the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) carries out an investigation.

The Governor disclosed that another postpartum would be conducted on the body to establish the cause of the MCA’s death.

“We consulted the DCI and agreed to have a second post-mortem done by the government and the family’s pathologist on Monday,” said the Governor

“President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked me to brief him on every step of this issue. I briefed him and I am going to brief him again tomorrow.” he added

Governor Nyoro said a committee had already been set up comprising of the County Assembly members, the County Commissioner and family members who will organise the burial ceremony.

Cyrus Omondi was found dead in his hotel room in India during an official trip. Doctors in India said the ward representative died of heart attack but the family disputed the report

Among those present to receive the body are Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Ruiru MP Simon Kinga’ara.
