Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia confirmed that the fatalities included the Probox driver and his passenger. The injured, who were passengers in the matatu, were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment.

“The accident occurred when the Probox reportedly lost control, swerved into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with the matatu, which was traveling towards Machakos town,” Commander Lobolia explained.

The incident has been recorded at the Machakos Police Station as a fatal road accident. Initial reports indicate that the matatu was heading to Machakos town while the Probox was traveling towards Kitui.

Traffic police promptly arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem examination.

Both vehicles have been towed to the Machakos Police Station for inspection as part of ongoing investigations.

Police Commander Lobolia assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the accident.
