Migori county commander Mark Wanjala, while confirming the incident, revealed that one person died on the way to the hospital after a lorry lost its brakes and crashed into other vehicles along the Isebania highway.

“So far, we have one dead as 11 in critical condition, but rescue operations are still underway, and we will give more updates,” Wanjala said.

A witness of the accident recounted that the driver lost control while driving at a high speed and hit motorists as well as pedestrians, including a woman and a high school student at the side of the road.

“He was avoiding hitting people. That’s when he veered and entered the bank, killing several women selling,” the witness said.

Videos shared of the accident scene showed rescue personnel trying to rescue accident victims and transfer them to the nearby hospital. The lorry was overturned with some vehicles sustaining significant damage from the crash.

The accident occurred along Migori-Isebania Road and came just a month after a similar accident occurred along the same road, killing more than eight people.
