Siaya County witnessed a historic and symbolic moment on Thursday as Kenyan President William Ruto, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga came together to mark the grand finale of the Piny Luo Cultural Festival.
In a remarkable display of cultural unity and regional diplomacy, Kenyan President William Ruto, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and African Union Commission Chairperson candidate Raila Odinga graced the grand finale of the 4th edition of the Piny Luo Cultural Festival in Bondo, Siaya County.
The Piny Luo Cultural Festival at Got Ramogi was marked by a historic and symbolic event that highlighted the cultural pride and unity of the Luo people. In a rare and solemn ceremony, Ker Odungi Randa, the traditional leader of the Luo Council of Elders, installed two presidents as honorary Luo elders.
The ceremony, steeped in rich cultural traditions, underscored the significance of Got Ramogi as a spiritual and historical epicenter for the Luo community. Attendees, including local leaders, dignitaries, and thousands of festival-goers, witnessed the installation, which represents a gesture of respect and a strengthening of cultural ties.

President Museveni, who was welcomed at the Busia border by Kenya’s Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, emphasized the deep historical ties between the Luo communities of Kenya and Uganda. “Our shared heritage and cultural diplomacy are essential in strengthening the bonds between our nations,” he stated.
President Ruto lauded the festival as a unifying force, saying, “This cultural celebration is a testament to the power of diversity in fostering harmony and togetherness. The Luo people’s rich heritage is a cornerstone of our national and regional identity.”

Speaking at the event in Siaya County, President Ruto remarked, “Got Ramogi epitomises the deep spiritual roots and traditions that we share as a region. We will keep preserving such heritage to further our unity and drive economic prosperity in East Africa.”
The event brought together prominent leaders, including Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, African Union Commission Chairperson candidate Raila Odinga, and several Governors, showcasing a unified vision for fostering cultural ties across East Africa.
