ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has promised the youth at least four cabinet positions if he is elected the next President of the country in 2022

Speaking on Tuesday in Nairobi where he met a group of youth from Mt. Kenya region, the former Prime Minister said he has the interests of the youth at heart.

Odinga said that he has been listening to youth problems and pledged appointment of a youth in the docket of Foreign Affairs since majority of Kenyans living abroad are the youth.

Mr. Odinga said that the same agenda had been included in the BBI amendment bill as the youth can become a burden to the society if neglected but if properly empowered, can become a powerful source of wealth if enough investment is done for them.

The former Prime Minister further noted that his government will prioritize youth empowerment as part of efforts to deal with unemployment and other challenges the youth are facing.

“If you don’t give them (youth) education and the necessary skills, they become drug unto the society but if properly empowered they become a proper source for wealth creation… and that is why we need to attend properly to this issue of the youth,” said Odinga.

He reminded the youth that in his previous position he had held such meeting and that he will make it a policy in his government and the same will continue in his regime.

“When I was the prime minister, I had roundtable meetings with the business community and also the youth. The roundtables were being held quarterly so that we can get feedback from the youth on what problems they are facing and what we are doing. It is something I have tried before and will be part of my policy,” said former PM Raila Odinga
