President William Ruto has announced a major Cabinet reshuffle, introducing fresh faces and reassigning key portfolios to align with Kenya’s strategic priorities.
Among the notable changes is the return of former Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, who has been nominated as the Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary. Kagwe will replace Andrew Karanja, who has been appointed Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil
The announcement was made on Thursday via a circular signed by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.
Kagwe who celebrated for his decisive leadership during Kenya’s COVID-19 response under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting the agricultural sector.
In another high-profile shift, Kipchumba Murkomen, the current Sports Cabinet Secretary, has been nominated as the Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary. A seasoned lawyer and former Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Murkomen brings extensive experience and political acumen to this critical docket.
Speaking on his nomination, Murkomen pledged to serve with dedication and integrity:
“Subject to parliamentary approval, I pledge to serve the people of Kenya with humility, accountability, and unwavering dedication. God bless Kenya.”
Murkomen, who has served as Roads and Transport CS for 21 months, will hand over his current portfolio to Salim Mvurya. Mvurya, currently the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, will take up the Youth Affairs and Sports docket.
Other notable appointments include former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, who has been nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and Digital Economy.
The reshuffle underscores President Ruto’s commitment to optimizing his administration’s performance in tackling Kenya’s national challenges. Parliament is expected to vet the nominees in the coming days.
