In a statement, the President described Eric as a young man of great promise, whose life was cut short far too soon.

“I join the family of Hon. Lenny Kivuti in mourning the tragic loss of his beloved son, Eric Mutugi. I pray for the Kivuti family during this immensely difficult time. Eric’s light and promise have been taken far too soon. May God grant the family and friends strength, comfort, and peace,” President Ruto said.

The former Embu Senator, Hon. Lenny Maxwell Kivuti, confirmed the passing of his son through a Facebook post.

He revealed that Eric Mutugi passed away at MP Shah Hospital after a short illness.

Hon. Lenny Kivuti served as Embu Senator from 2013 to 2017 and previously represented the county as a Member of Parliament.

The tragic news has drawn an outpouring of messages of sympathy and support from leaders and Kenyans across the country, as the Kivuti family navigates this devastating loss.
