ODM National Treasurer Timothy Bosire has declined President William Ruto’s appointment as the non-executive chairperson of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) board. His decision, announced on Saturday, January 18, 2025, comes just a day after the President’s official gazette notice revoked the previous appointment of Dr. Manoj Shah and named Bosire for a three-year term.
In a statement, Bosire, a former Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament, explained that he had consulted with family, friends, and key political figures before ultimately deciding to turn down the appointment. “After careful consultation, I have come to the conclusion that I must respectfully decline this appointment. I thank His Excellency President William Ruto for the trust he has shown in me,” Bosire said.
This marks the latest in a series of high-profile rejections of presidential appointments. Just hours before Bosire’s announcement, former nominated senator Millicent Omanga explained her decision to reject a government role at the Nairobi Rivers Commission in October 2024, citing personal reasons. She has since been appointed to the Board of Directors of Kenya Shipyards Limited.
Other individuals who have declined appointments by President Ruto include Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, ICT Cabinet Secretary Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, and former West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, among others. Their rejections add to growing concerns over discontent surrounding the President’s leadership and the government’s appointments.
Bosire’s rejection follows a broader pattern of figures within Ruto’s circle stepping back from positions offered under the current administration, reflecting unease over the distribution of political power and leadership roles within the country.
