Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has sparked debate after sharing his January 2025 payslip, revealing a net salary of just Ksh 18,000. The legislator voiced strong opposition to further deductions, particularly the proposed increase in National Social Security Fund (NSSF) contributions.

“Many employees have already committed their payslips to loans and other obligations, yet Kasongo wants to introduce more deductions. If teachers and police officers face additional cuts, their salaries will end up in the negative,” Salasya lamented.

Questioning the burden placed on workers, he added, “God, where did we go wrong to deserve this suffering? The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, have mercy on us.”

His remarks have ignited reactions online, with many Kenyans weighing in on the ongoing debate over rising statutory deductions.
