Mourning Moi – Govt Declares Tuesday, February 11 Public Holiday

Tuesday, February 11, 2020 has been declared a public holiday to mourn the late president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi who passed on Tuesday

 

While speaking at the Harambee House, the head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua announced that former President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi who died this week on Tuesday, will lie in state in Parliament for three days starting Saturday, February 8, 2020 until Monday 10th ahead of his state funeral followed by a state burial in Kabarak on Wednesday.

After the three days, the body will be moved to Nyayo Stadium for a national inter-denominational memorial service.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is currently in Washington DC, USA, is expected back in the country on Friday night and will lead the nation in paying last respects to the former president.

  • “His excellency Uhuru Kenyatta will on Saturday lead the nation in viewing of the body of the former president as well as the paying of last respects. The Head of State is expected to arrive at Parliament buildings at 10:15am…” said the PS

The cortège, he added, will leave Lee Funeral Home on Saturday at 8:15am and will be conveyed to Parliament buildings with the casket being draped in the national flag and escorted by the family of President Moi.

  • “To allow our nation to reflect on President Moi’s momentous role and achievements and accord all Kenyans the opportunity to participate in public viewing and paying of last respects to the former head of state and government, the body of the President shall lie ion state in Parliament from Saturday, 8th February to Monday…,” said Mr. Kinyua.

Kinyua says Daniel Moi will be buried next week on Wednesday 12 February at his home in Kabarak.
