In a significant reshuffle of high-ranking police officers, Kiambu Police Commander Michael Nyaga Muchiri has been appointed the new National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson. Nyaga takes over from Dr. Resila Onyango, who has been reassigned to the Diplomatic Police Unit as the commandant.
The changes also saw Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah transferred to Nairobi, where he assumes the same position, replacing the long-serving commander Adamson Bungei. Bungei has been recalled to police headquarters and appointed Director of Operations, taking over from former Presidential Escort Commander William Yiampoy, whose new posting has not been disclosed.
Kwale County Police Commander Ali Nuno has been promoted to Coast Regional Police Commander, succeeding Sedah. Nuno, known for his no-nonsense approach, expressed readiness to tackle the rising challenges in the region, including criminal gangs armed with crude weapons like machetes.
Other key changes include the transfer of Amos Omuga, head of legal affairs at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), to the NPS headquarters at Jogoo House in the same capacity. Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, formerly head of the National Forensics Laboratory at DCI, has been moved to Vigilance House as Director of Human Capital, replacing Rosemary Kuraru, who now leads the National Forensics Laboratory.
Michael Sang, head of the Serious Crime Unit at DCI, has been posted to Eastern Region as the DCI Regional Head, while Judy Jebet has been named the new head of community policing, succeeding John Gachomo, who has been reassigned to police headquarters for redeployment.
Further movements include Eastern Regional Head of DCI Daniel Korir, now appointed Commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU). Diplomatic Police Unit Commandant Rhoda Kinanu has also been reassigned to police headquarters for redeployment.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja described the changes as part of routine adjustments aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of police operations.
This reshuffle reflects the National Police Service’s ongoing efforts to address pressing security challenges and improve service delivery across the country.
