Nairobi, Kenya – Kilimani MCA Hon. Robert Alai has made explosive claims regarding the just-concluded African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson elections, alleging that foreign interests played a significant role in the outcome.
In his social media platform, Alai asserted that beyond former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s alleged attempts to derail Raila Odinga’s bid, there was a deeper financial influence at play.
“Reliable sources in Addis Ababa confirm that Arab Sheikhs, Kings, and Oligarchs channelled $500 million to each African Head of State willing to back the Djibouti candidate. Kenya couldn’t match the bid, so the Arabs and their oil money installed their preferred AU Commission Chair,” Alai claimed.
He further commended African leaders from economically struggling nations who resisted the financial temptation and stood with Kenya. He noted that South Sudan withdrew its vote once Raila Odinga was no longer in the race.
Alai also lauded President William Ruto and Raila Odinga for their resilience in extending the contest to six rounds, despite the external pressures.
“Let’s see how the Arabs guide the AU over the next four years,” he remarked, adding, “God bless Africa.”
The allegations raise fresh concerns over the role of foreign influence in African political affairs. Neither the AU nor the Kenyan government has officially responded to the claims.
