Thika, Kenya — In a historic gesture that bridges education and innovation, Kenya Airways (KQ) has donated a decommissioned Boeing 737-700 aircraft to Mang’u High School.
This landmark initiative is set to revolutionize aviation education, giving students hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of career opportunities in the aviation industry.
The aircraft, retired from commercial service, was transported from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the school in an operation that captured national attention. Transporting the massive fuselage via the Eastern Bypass and Thika Road required meticulous planning, with motorists advised to exercise caution during the convoy’s passage.

Mang’u High School, a pioneer in integrating aviation studies into its curriculum, received the aircraft during a ceremony attended by distinguished guests, including Archbishop Rev. Philip Anyolo, Nation Media Group Chair Dr. Wilfred Kiboro, and KQ executives.
Chief Principal John Kuria, who spearheaded the initiative, emphasized its transformative potential. “This journey began over three years ago, and today we celebrate a monumental achievement. The aircraft will significantly enhance our aviation studies program, equipping students with the practical skills needed to excel in both Kenyan and global aviation markets.”

Former Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who had facilitated the official handover in 2024, highlighted the donation’s alignment with Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). “This initiative underscores the importance of hands-on learning, turning abstract theories into practical skills.
