Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has written a protest letter to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan after he was allegedly denied entry, arrested, and briefly detained at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam in December 2024.
In his statement, Owino expressed his disappointment over the incident, calling on President Suluhu to explain why he was held for three hours upon arrival.
“Tanzania’s President Suluhu should explain to the great people of Embakasi East and Kenyans why her government detained me for three hours at Julius Nyerere International Airport. When she visits Kenya, we welcome her as a friend, yet when a sitting Member of Parliament travels to Tanzania, he is subjected to frustration. This is unacceptable,” Owino stated.
The MP has demanded clarification from Tanzanian authorities, terming the incident as an affront to diplomatic relations between the two nations.
