The man identified as Alexander Kipchumba is alleged to have killed Alphonse Kipchumba and Melvin Rotich after he was denied chance to sell his parcel of land.

Alphonse and Melvin were both shot at the left side of the chest. Alphonse died on the spot while Melvin succumbed to injuries while being rushed to Baringo County Referral Hospital.

Confirming the incident Baringo County OCPD, Francis Gachoki said they have arrested the suspect with a bow and four poisonous arrows in his hideout at Kaptimbor in the outskirts of Kabarnet town.

“We received information about the death of two people at Kapkelelwa, Katunoi location that a man has killed his elder brother, Alphonse Kipchumba, and his sister-in-law, Melvin Rotich. The brother of the suspect recorded a statement at Kabarnet police station saying that the suspect wanted to sell his parcel of land and was most likely under the influence of bhang. After an altercation, he shot Alphonse and when Melvin tried to save him, she was also shot,” the OCPD said.

“Alphonse died on the spot while Melvin succumbed as she was being rushed to the hospital. The Suspect was arrested at Kaptimbor where he was hiding,” he added.

Residents are now calling upon the government to construct a police station in the area to avert rising cases of crime.
