Sonko Buys Uniform, Clears Fee Balance For Viral Narok Girl Captured Torn Dress Mended By Teacher

Former Nairobi governor, Mike Sonko, has extended a helping hand to a needy schoolgirl whose heart-wrenching photo went viral on social media.

Sonko took to his twiiter handle saying he was deeply moved by the photo and was looking for the girl as he was ready to pay her school fees, and buy her new school items and food. He expressed his determination to locate the girl, offering to cover her school fees, provide new school supplies, and ensure she had enough food.

In his post, Sonko implored his followers to help him find the school or obtain the contact information of the girl’s parents.

“Watu wangu, imagine sijalala poa coz of this pic which I saw of a young girl from Siyiape primary school, Narok county with a torn dress circulating on social media.”

“I need details of this school or her parents contacts I just want to buy her 5 sets of school uniforms, rubber shoes, official school shoes, her food and school shopping for at least six months and clear any of her outstanding school fees,” Sonko wrote.

His intention was to purchase five sets of school uniforms, rubber shoes, official school shoes, food, and other necessary items for a duration of six months. Additionally, he aimed to clear any outstanding school fees the girl might have.

A few hours in his tweet, the former Nairobi Governor managed to find the school’s M-Pesa number. In a message seen by Kisasa News, Sonko sent KSh 21,000 to Siyiapei Primary School’s M-Pesa number to help the pupil.

Shirleen Saiton Saipiri went viral after her teacher, Joyce Sempela Malit, was pictured sewing her torn uniform on opening day.

Sempela explained that she chose to sew the girl’s outfit because her home is far and she couldn’t send her away half naked.

“I decided to sew her dress; I always carry a needle and thread around so I closed the door and covered her with my leso, then started mending her dress,” she the teacher

Many Kenyans were moved by the story as well-wishers stepped in to help the needy pupil. The viral nature of the photo has shed light on the challenges faced by many young students in accessing adequate resources and has sparked a broader conversation on the same.
