The Kenyan entertainment industry on Thursday, May 11 was thrown into mourning following the death of Duncan Tony Ochonjo, a popular actor in the Njoro wa Uba comical show.
Ochonjo died on Wednesday night, May 10 while receiving treatment at a local hospital.
His dear friend and colleague, Sandra Dacha, while announcing the sad news through a series of Instagram posts, claimed that she was among those who rushed him to the hospital the previous week.
“Just a week ago, we brought you to the hospital, Ochonjo Tony Duncan. Today, at 2 am, Dunco said goodbye. We accept the inevitability of death because life cannot exist without you,”
“You have left behind precious memories that will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, Ochos, until we meet again.” Dacha wrote
Ochonjo’s admission to the hospital was linked to liver complications as well as kidney failure, which reports attributed were the cause of his death.
His fans took to social media to mourn the demise of their favourite entertainer.
Lauryn Omondi shared: “You had a strong fighting spirit but fate had a different plan. God’s will has been done. Rest in peace Dunco, free from pain. At 2 am you took your final bow. May the angels give you a warm welcome”.
Denis Odhiambo added: “This world is not our permanent home. The legend has gone to sleep peacefully. Rest well, my dear friend Brian Njugu, or the honourable one of Nyarkochia Ramogi Luo Comedy. Until we meet again in the morning of the resurrection.
Ochonjo, aka Brian Njogu, was featured in several local TV programmes on entertainment. He also worked closely with top comedians in the country.
He collaborated with fellow comedians like Mike Wako and Onsogo, Ochonjo for skits that resonated deeply with audiences before extending to the Luo comedy scene.
He also featured in several local TV dramas like Ramogi TV’s Nyarkochia and KTN’s Mhweshimiwa series.
