Obado Denies Involvement in Sharon’s Murder; Asks Police to Speed up Probe

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has asked politicians and members of the public to stop speculation and leave the job to investigative agencies to unearth the killers of the slain University student Sharon Otieno.

In his first public, the embattled governor distanced himself from the brutal murder saying he had “nothing and absolutely nothing” to do with the killing of the varsity student.

“As a law abiding citizen, I want to state here clearly that I have absolutely nothing to do with the cruel death of Sharon,” Mr Obado his short address to journalists at a Nairobi hotel.

“I call upon our politicians and even the media to avoid medieval punishments and proclamations, so that our state agencies charged with investigations are given time to their work appropriately,” he added.

On Tuesday, Mr Obado was grilled by Kisumu criminal detectives over the murder of Sharon Otieno but denied any involvement in killings despite adversely mentioned.

The county chief also offered condolences to the family of the slain Rongo University medical records student and asked detectives to speed up their probe  so that the real killers can be brought to book.

The governor who was flanked by his wife Hellen Okoth, daughter Evelyne and son Jerry public regretted that the public condemnation  has given the his family sleepless nights adding they are equally perturbed by the incidents.

When journalists pressed the governor to field questions, he unwillingly responded stating that, “the matter is under investigation is unfair to discuss it and the story is being shifted to him to make it ‘juicier’ owing to his position as governor.

The county boss thanked his constituents for the support and prayers and asked them to continue praying for him as faces the accusations.

This as Mr Michael Oyamo, a  personal assistant to the governor and the key suspect to the murder of Sharon Otieno was detained 14 days at Muthaiga police station for investigations into the abduction and subsequent murder of the said student.

The prosecution, through State Counsel Tom Mbali, had asked the court for more time saying that the case is very complex.

Judge Luka Kimaru directed Mr Oyamo will be held at the Muthaiga Police Station for further 14 days.

The case will be mentioned on September 26.
