MaragaResponds To Letter Asking DCJ MwiluTo Sped Aside

Following the alleged corruption case surrounding the Deputy Chief Justice, Philomena Mwilu, a supposed letter from the Chief Justice, David Maraga has been doing round on the social media.

The letter claimed that the President of the Supreme court had asked his deputy top step aside. Maraga ‘acknowledges’ that Mwilu was accused of corruption, she failed to pay tax and had an improper transaction with Imperial Bank that is now in receivership. For that, the CJ ‘asks’ the Deputy Chief Justice to take time away from her office and wait for her name to be cleared.

The Chief Justice has come out to term the letter fake and state that the letter is not from him.
A part of the letter read, “In addition, with the dignity and reputation of the Judiciary at stake, I would like to suggest that you consider taking some time away from the office until this unfortunate matter is dispensed with.”

CJ Maraga Tweet:

The fake letter is a serious matter that has provoked DCJ Mwilu’s lawyer. The DCJ’s lawyer, Nelson Havi, has demanded that the author of the letter be charged and convicted the same way his client was charged by the Director of Criminal Investigation and Director of Public Prosecution.

The DCI and DPP charged the DCJ Mwilu for using her official letterhead when applying for a loan at the Imperial Bank Limited. Lawyer Havi doesn’t believe it is wrong to do so. And if the DPP and DCI claim it is, then they should prosecute and charge the author of the fake letter equally.

The lawyer added, “Could you put our taxes to good use and get to the bottom of this letter and the hashtag #MwiluTheWicked,”.

The prosecution of the Deputy President of the Supreme Court attracted the attention of many Kenyans on the social media. Some supported her, while others didn’t stop throwing stones at her. The entire prosecution brought about the trending hashtag, #MwiluTheWicked.

However, the DCJ Mwilu and other ODM key members believe that the entire prosecution is a politically-instigated witch-hunt. Mwilu earlier on said that it is President Uhuru who is behind the persecution. She believes that the president of the republic is ‘punishing’ her for being one of the judges that nullified the presidential elections that were in favor of him in August 2017.

Uhuru was furious about the judges’ decision, and she said ‘six should not be the ones to rule out the decisions of millions of Kenyans’. Furthermore, the president said that he had accepted the judges’ ruling, but ‘they shall revisit’.

Deputy Chief Justice Mwilu believes all the charges and unfortunate events are linked to the president’s words of ‘revisiting’ the Supreme Court judges’ decision.

The ambivalent stand of Kenyans on the DCJ case continues as Kenyans voice their opinion on the matter.

One popular Twitter user, Bravin Yuri, said that he wanted to see hashtag #ArrestObado trending. He said Kenyans should talking too much about the DCJ and that they should wait for her ruling if she is found guilty. Others want the author of the letter to be arrested.
