NAIROBI, Monday, November 3, 2025 — President William Ruto has finally broken his silence on the ongoing post-election violence in Tanzania, urging for peace and dialogue while congratulating President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election.
In a statement released on Monday morning, President Ruto congratulated President Suluhu for securing a fresh mandate to lead the United Republic of Tanzania, describing her victory as “a testament to the enduring strength of democracy in the region.”
At the same time, Ruto called on all parties in Tanzania to embrace peace and national unity amid rising tensions and reports of protests that have rocked several towns following the disputed polls.
“Kenya stands with the people of Tanzania during this critical time. We urge for calm, dialogue, and respect for democratic institutions to safeguard regional stability,” said President Ruto.
His remarks come after several days of unrest in major Tanzanian cities, with opposition leaders rejecting the election results and alleging massive irregularities. The protests have led to clashes between demonstrators and security forces, resulting in injuries and arrests.
Observers note that Ruto’s message marks Kenya’s first official response to the crisis in its southern neighbor, highlighting the growing concern among East African leaders over the situation in Tanzania.
Regional analysts say President Ruto’s call for peace reflects Kenya’s interest in maintaining stability within the East African Community (EAC), especially at a time when regional integration and economic cooperation remain key priorities.
President Suluhu’s government has yet to issue a detailed response to international appeals for dialogue, though she has assured Tanzanians that peace and unity will prevail.
