According to the police report, Nyawa Murinzi, 50, had been receiving treatment at the Coast General Hospital for weeks until he succumbed to the viral disease.

Mrinzi apart from being the Lamu Sub-County Police Commander he was also a servant of God. He was commended for serving the people while at the same time serving God.

“The body is currently lying at the Coast General Hospital Mortuary,” a police report read in part.

Paul Mwero Murinzi who is the younger brother to the deceased said that the father of six had on October 10, 2020, lost his wife who succumbed to cancer.

His death came as a shocker and just days after he remarried in a colourful wedding ceremony which took place in Kwale County on August 28. Immediately after the wedding, the police boss fell sick and was rushed to a private facility within Kinango where he tested positive for malaria before being referred to Diani Beach Hospital.

“When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Diani Beach Hospital where he tested positive for Covid-19. He was then transferred to the Coast General Hospital and put on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),” Mwero said

Before moving to Lamu he served as a deputy OCPD for Changamwe sub county in Mombasa county.

In 2019 he served as the deputy police commander at KBC police station Malaa for several months before being transferred.

A lot of people are still coming to terms with the death of such a great soldier.

Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia mourned the officer as hardworking and asked his juniors to follow on his steps.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
