A section of ODM MPs have lashed out on Deputy President William Ruto on his renewed attacks on National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga accusing him of funding division and brewing hatred among Kenyans.
Reacting to DP Ruto weekend attack on Mr Odinga for allegedly plotting to divide Jubilee Party through the handshake, the lawmakers trailed their guns on the Deputy President indicting him of fighting back to open more rifts and more wounds.
Led by Kwale women representative Zuleikha Hassan, Antony Oluoch (Mathare), Samuel Atandi (Alego-Usonga) and Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi said Ruto thrives on chaos, division, hatred and commotion and that is what he is trying to plant across the country in the name of launching development projects.
His loud silence in the ongoing Narok tribal clashes, the MPs believe is a true testament to be a beneficiary of hostility between rebellious communities.
“It is unfortunate that while Hon Odinga and President Kenyatta are busy building bridges among Kenyans, Ruto is doing the opposite, planting anger and mistrust among communities and leaders,” the MPs said in a joint statement read by Kwale women representative Zuleikha Hassan at Parliament buildings.
They said the Deputy President is riding on the animosity between the main ethnic blocs that support the two main parties {ODM and Jubilee Party} to build a political career.
On Sunday, DP Ruto claimed that ODM leader is using his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta to bring conmanship, confusion and hypocrisy to the ruling Jubilee Party.
He said Raila and his troops used the handshake to warm themselves into the heart of Jubilee but now want to wreck the party.
The DP Ruto accused the Opposition Chief of hawking rumors and propaganda to create confusion in Jubilee and portray him as a stumbling block in the handshake.
President Kenyatta and his political nemesis Mr Odinga shook hands on March 9th and announced that they will work together for the sake of national unity and development.
But Odinga’s troops, contend that the Deputy President who has already declared his 2022 presidential ambitions is unhappy with the working relationship between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
They held that the March 9th handshake killed the card Ruto was holding and rendered him almost irrelevant to the success of Uhuru’s agenda.
Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi launched a direct attack on DP Ruto accusing him of being uncomfortable with ongoing war on corruption and impunity.
Mr Osotsi held the crackdown on corruption means the taps are drying up and William Ruto and his associates in strategic parastatals will be finding it had to finance his numerous harambees and goat and chicken auctions at which he contributes millions at ago.
“As the patron of corruption and the official face of impunity in Kenya, William Ruto wants to frustrate and forestall the war on corruption. The Deputy President’s sole strength as a politician has been capacity to distribute money whose sources are not clear,” he said.
On his part, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi warned that should the DP persist with verbal attack against the ODM leader, he will mobilize his colleagues in parliament to institute measures that he may not be happy with.
