Trio arrested Over Missing Mosquito Nets Worth Ksh 6.8million Destined For Rabuor, Nyangande Health Centres

Three hospital staffs from Rabuor and Nyang’ande sub-county hospitals within Nyando in Kisumu have been arrested for allegedly being in connection with the missing mosquito nets that were to be distributed to area residents for free to protect them from contracting Malaria.

According to Kisumu County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu, Paul Masanga who is the Kisumu County Project Coordinator and Lilian Odago head of Malaria program Kisumu County alluded to them that they established that 181 bales were missing from Nyang’ande hospital and 160 bales from Rabuor hospital.

According to Masanga, the total number of bales missing from the twin hospitals are 341 with one bale carrying 50 mosquito nets bringing it to a total number of 17,050 missing nets each going for ksh300, totalling to approximately ksh.6,820,000

Police were able to arrest three suspects Teresa Anyango acting in-charge of Rabuor hospital, Cynthia Akinyi the in-charge net distribution Nyang’ande area and David Ouma who is in charge of Nyang’ande sub-county hospital.

Other suspects, Dixon Malit, a health officer from Rabuor who is currently on study leave in Thika and Samwel Omino who is suspected to be the mastermind and in connection with Cynthia Akinyi are still at large.

Meanwhile, Independent sources say that Samwel Omino who is the mastermind of the deal is from Siaya County and was working as a PHO before he was dismissed from the service due to his shady deals. The Scandal is believed to be a well calculated deal and had blessings from some Senior sub-County MOH officials.

The police commander condemned the act and said they have launched investigations to arrest more suspects.

He said the suspects were detained at Ahero police station waiting to be arraigned before the court upon completion of investigations.
