POLICE RAID ex-Mungiki sect leader Maina Njenga’s Lavington, Karen and Nyandarua homes ahead of Mukami Kimathi burial. Motive unknown.

Former leader of the Mungiki sect, Maina Njenga claimed that a battalion of police officers raided his homes in the wee hours of Friday morning, May 12.

Speaking to the press, Maina suspected that the raid was commissioned by individuals who did not want him to attend the burial of Dedan Kimathi’s wife, Mukami Kimathi, slated for Saturday, May 13.

His sentiments were corroborated by a staff member attached to one of his homes named Christopher Wafula who claimed to have witnessed the events. Maina was not at that home at the time of raid.

“Today early in the morning, we were visited by police officers. They told us they want to conduct a search here. We opened the house.

“They came in three Land Cruisers. They did a search and then they left. I heard that the police did the same thing in other homes of my boss. We do not know what is going on,” narrated the staff member.

Wafula noted that the intentions of the police officers were not clear even though they did not pick anything from the houses.

The police, in a separate statement to the press, denied knowledge of the raid.

Njenga owns three homes based in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Laikipia counties.

On Thursday, May 11, Njenga visited the late Mukami’s home where he signed the condolence book and promised to attend the burial.

“I have this evening condoled with the family and friends of the late Mukami Kimathi at her Njambini residence. I am impressed by the good progress in the preparation of the burial under the county and national government.

“I have also suggested and requested the President to plant a memorial Mugumo tree at the residence of Mukami Kimathi as a show of respect and send off of a Mau Mau veteran,” he wrote in a statement
