President William Ruto on Saturday changed the tune and echoed what his predecessor, President Uhuru Kenyatta was saying a few months ago when Kenyans were complaining about the high cost of living and high prices of food.

President Ruto has come to terms that the war in Ukraine is the reason why Kenya is experiencing high food prices

Ruto’s timely realization of the Russia and Ukraine war effects comes a few weeks after he had refuted the same when his predecessor raised a similar statement.

During campaigns, Ruto differed with President Uhuru when he said that the war in Ukraine had led to the increase in prices of commodities in Kenya, including fuel.

Ruto told Kenyans that the war was only being used as an excuse and even promised to lower the prices of basic goods within 100 days of his leadership

In a new twist, President Ruto has now said that the war has indeed negatively impacted the prices of basic goods.

He noted the country is not able to buy fertilizers because of the war

“We are all bearing the brunt of what that conflict (Russia/Ukraine) potents for us. high food prices, we cannot afford fertilizer, we cannot pay for fertilizer transport,” Ruto noted while speaking on an international media on Saturday

President Ruto has urged the two nations to stop the war, adding that in a war, there is never a winner
