In a statement seen Kisasa News, the soldiers are disappointed by the media reports ‘tainting’ its image in relation to a fake arms procurement scam and further mentioned its intent to seek legal redress for the matter.

The Defence ministry lamented that it received investigators and complainants who visited their Headquarters to establish truths in the allegations that had been made.

“The Ministry of Defence is very concerned that a section of the media is creating a narrative that is scandalous and libelous in spite of what is clearly a fraudulent and criminal act. The Ministry of Defence intends to seek redress for this matter,” the statement read.

The visit further established that the complainants never interacted with any official mandated to represent the Ministry of Defence as had been alleged

The Defence Ministry, has therefore distanced itself from from the alleged involvement in the fake arms procurement scam that has dragged former Sports CS Rashid Echesa, who is at the center of the case.

Read Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa was arrested last Thursday inside the office of the Deputy President William Ruto

DCI on Monday February 17 stormed DP Ruto’s Harambee House Annex office in connection with the Ksh40 billion fake arms deal scandal which saw former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa arrested on Thursday, February 13.

The detectives took humble time in the building as they interrogated workers stationed at the Building. The sleuths also sought documents expected to shed light on the scandal in which Echesa is accused of defrauding Polish arms dealers whom he allegedly convinced that he was in a position to help them secure lucrative tenders to supply the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) with guns and surveillance equipment.

It had emerged that CCTV footage taken from Ruto’s office had captured Echesa entering the building with two individuals; a Polish man identified as Kozlowski Stanley Bruno and an Egyptian, Mamdough Mostafa Amer. Interestingly, they reportedly faced no security checks and received VIP treatment during their engagement.

Pressure has piled on Ruto from several quarters to come clean on the matter since it emerged that Echesa met officials of the Polish firm, Eco Advanced Technologies LLC., at the second floor diplomatic boardroom at Harambee House. It was further claimed that Echesa had assured the investors that the deal would be signed in Ruto’s presence, although this did not take place.

On his part, the Deputy President distance himself from the scandal even as he admitted that the Polish individuals spent about 23 minutes in his office.
