13 pupils have been confirmed dead while 39 others injured in the evening of Monday 3, 2020 after stampede broke out after the bell rang to signify the end of classes at Kakamega Primary School.
Most got injured while trying to come down from the three-storey building.
Parents have camped at the hospital as there are fears more may have succumbed to the injuries.
It is alleged that the students were running out of class at 5pm when the tragedy occurred.
It was said that some fell from the third floor of the building.
Responders including police and personnel from the Kenya Red Cross Society went to the school to offer emergency services.
Leaders who rushed to the hospital after receiving reports of the incident included Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Lurambi member of Parliament Titus Khamala and County Commissioner Pauline Dola.
